It can be easy to forget in these image-dominated times, but the most unique characteristic of putting on a piece of clothing is how it feels. If it looks good, it can make you feel good, but we’re also talking about how it physically feels to be wrapped in it from the inside.
We use a bit of pseudo-math to help us think about it. Imagine a ring around your finger or a watchband around your wrist. You could argue that these provide an inward touch-sensation from a 360-degree circumference. If you rotated that ring-of-sensation 180 degrees to envision the ring becoming a sphere, you’d have 360 degree of touch multiplied by 180 degrees.
The total is 64,800 degrees of sensation coming at you from literally all directions inside a garment which is something the metaverse can’t currently duplicate. It’s entirely unique to the feeling of wearing clothing.
It’s about interior linings of course, but that’s too simple. It’s about the weight of the total garment, the fabric density, the interlinings or insulations, it’s about how the whole thing works together. The artist Hundertwasser sometimes illustrated his own theory of our place in the universe with his “5 Skins” diagram. In his drawing, he shows clothing as the 2nd layer of his set-of-five. We agree with this concept and do whatever we can to ensure we’re delivering the best experience possible.
CUPRO | THE CHAMPAIGN OF COTTONS
Cupro Fabric is a bio-based fiber derived from cotton linter, a soft layer of fluff that surrounds cotton seeds which was once considered waste since it could not be spun directly into yarn. Instead, it is converted into cellulose pulp which can be extruded like silk to produce continuous ultrafine filaments.
Cotton cupro looks and feels a lot like silk. It’s smooth and cool-to-the-touch. But its surface is unique and distinct from silk since it retains a fresh subtle “cottony” aspect. For us it is absolutely the best of both worlds, both natural and unapologetically luxurious. We use it in most of our outerwear and tailored styles.
SUPIMA® | ONE HUNDRED TIMES MORE RARE
Supima is a superior type of American grown cotton which features extremely long fibers of 1.5 inches on average. When spun, this extra length produces fewer hairy feeling “fiber-ends” per meter of yarn ensuring the final fabric feels smoother, softer and cooler to the touch. It can be blended or woven together with other yarn types to create a variety of luxury surface qualities and performance characteristics. We’ve used it in jersey knitted variations for sweats and tees as well as cross-woven with linen in shirting fabric.
TENCEL® | MORE SEDUCTIVE WITH SILK
Tencel is a bio-based fiber made using a process similar to cupro which converts wood fibers to a viscose pulp, extruded into a monofilament and then knitted into fabric.
Our tee shirt range features both short and long-sleeved 170gsm single jersey styles knitted from a Tencel®, silk and cotton blend. Tencel® is made using primarily eucalyptus trees producing a soft-but-strong, moisture-wicking and breathable material that feels luxurious and travels extremely well.
